Help games take over my video

What do you do when the games you play "take over" the display properties and force a lower refresh rate? Forexample when p,aying Half-Life at 1280x960 the games forces a 60 HZ refresh rate. Also in most games the refresh rate gets highjacked. Is thier any fix for this?

Go to program files/directx and click your way through to main window.
Choose "more help" then "override". Set whatever refresh rate you like.

Chances are you will have to adjust your game screen with monitor controls.
Adjustments will stay and survive reboot .
