help! friend having weird problems with win2k.

my friend has win2k installed on his new computer, and he just told me about a problem that he has been having. when he boots up, he can see the loadup screen for win2k. right when its about to load to desktop, it shows a blue screen with some letters at the top, then it resets. he doesn't have enough time to read whats on the blue screen. he says he can't go into safemode either. anyone have any tips on what to do?

heh triple post, its ok. that's the thing, he doesn't want to format, and i was wondering if there was anyway to save his stuff or get it to work.

Run a repair by booting to the cd and choosing repair existing install (or something like that).

Most likely he have "automatically reboot on error" enabled. I think it's under the performance tab in Control Panel -> System.
