Help: friend has a laptop from 1998 with a broken CDROM...

....it has Korean Win98. Now he also has a NIC that he never really used.

Now he cannot use both cdrom and floppy- he has to swap

Now I've spent forever trying to get his internet to work but it keeps asking to insert the korean win98 cd so it can grab drivers (well he is the one translating 😉 I'm just the roomate 😛 ) but like I said his CDROM is broken....

it also prevents him from printing b/c he doesn't even have printer drivers installed (that is how little he uses his pc - he hates technology and with a laptop like that i'm not suprised)

Now I let him use my PC when he needs to do stuff and it isn't a bother...but i guess its my personality to try to find a solution 😉 I can't stand broken or crippled comps

So....does anyone have an idea? He cannot get the ethernet card to work, CDrom is broken, and printer doesn't work....

Perhaps its a specific file that it is searching for and we can transfer them via CD?

Oh- I tired USB thumbdrive but it wants to install drivers for USB - freaking his windows install is like freaking barebones

Try to find a way to install an English version of 98 on there if possible. That would let you install a thumbdrive, plus you wouldn't need a translator to read the start button 😛. Sounds like you might want to scrounge around eBay or something to find a similar laptop with a working CD-ROM and floppy and swap the drives.
