Just did fresh reformat of hard drive and trying to install xp pro it goes through formatting then copys files restarts and then after reboot this error message apears

I ended up installing an old xp home edition on it for now

also while playing games the comp kicks me off and after trying to play rise of nations the following message appears when the game quits "Gathering Exception Data"

and while using windows media player and copying a cd to the library the coputer crashes and I get the blue screen of death the message on the screen is

win32k.sys-Address BF87f87d base at BF8OOOOO,Date stamp 3f73195d
problem seems to be caused by the folling file:win32k.sys
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

any help would be greatly appreciated

What CPU do you have, what brand and speed of RAM do you have, and what is the memory voltage set for, in the BIOS?

Four drives, a decent video card, an AthlonXP and a generic came-with-my-case power supply is not a mix I'd sign myself up for, but I'm a rabid overkill power-supply zealot (just ask anyone!) ;) Still, if you have a decent 350W-400W quality-brand power supply like an Enermax, Sparkle Power, Antec or Fortron around, give that a try too.

Also, you might want to run a diagnostic on the hard drive, you can get it on their website. Also, D:/??? why D? Do you have multiple partitions?

Also, my impression of mechBgon:

Random person: "Well, you see, what my computer does is...."

mechBgon: "Hold it right there, sounds like your power supply"

(just kidding mech...it's funny because it is so true)

If you cant get a floppy to boot from dos, you must have a serious problem. Did it give you an error of some kind? was floppy set as the first boot option? You also have to have the latest version of the software for it to work with nforce 2 motherboards.

LOL, I was considering adding a line to my sig saying "with me, it's always the power supply " Hmm, now is there room... ;)

okie74063, thanks for the added info. You left out two details that might help, and that's the speed of the RAM (PC2700 or whatever) and the CPU (AthlonXP 2500+ or whatever). I'm trying to get at whether the RAM is capable of running at least as fast as the CPU's frontside bus. And if it's capable of running faster, then generally I'd recommend clocking it down so it matches the CPU's frontside bus, for nForce2 anyway.

*ding-ding-ding* We have a winnAR! Your CPU is running overclocked, bro. Bring its FSB down to 166MHz (the BIOS calls this CPU Ext. Frequency), and set your memory timings to User Define and set the Memory Frequency to 166MHz as well. If that doesn't fix the problem by itself, let us know, but it seems like a very likely contributing factor, if it isn't the outright cause.

edit: "corrupted download?"
