I'm trying to get a few people (well okay, a lot of people really) to help my newest project off to a healthy start.
I've just set up new categories for motherboards and hard drives at Feedback Arena: Motherboards and Hard Drives

These categories are the first of a new type. They include a field where reviewers can enter the specific model when submitting their review. When visitors view a supplier's page they will be given the option to see the ratings and reviews for all models or only those for a specific model on a dropdown list. (Or at least they should do if it works properly!)

Lots of fun programming it all but it needs a few more reviews. Guinea pigs please step forward!

Now I know you all have motherboards and you all have hard drives - so no excuses! :)

Thanks in advance. ;)

i'll try some reviews of my stuff. Depends how long they have to be. And i'm not sure what criteria to include  (never write reviews)

Thanks! Anything you think relevant (look at some of the other reviews for inspiration) and more than 20 words would be great!

Thanks again!

911paramedic,

They're not intended to be reviews only by experienced professionals but by all consumers. Given a large enough sample size, the reviews will be extremely useful as an overall indication of the manufacturer/board.

The scheme works well with many products (user reviews of cameras, etc.). It's a question of sample size. It's of far less value to take only one review in isolation.

hmm i think it would easyer to just take quotes and ratings from real reviews from other sites and put them in there. I can see how people will badmouth something because it didnt work for them even thouhg it was their fault..(like...my cpu caught on fire in this mobo, ...oh yeah i didnt have a heatsink)

chiwawa626,

I can see your point but the chart is really intended as an overall ranking of the manufacturer. I often get asked which is the best board manufacturer overall; this seems like a good way of finding out.

Of course you will get a few biased reviews but once there are dozens of reviews it begins to balance out fairly. For a look at how the chart begins to balance out after a larger number of reviews, see the UK Computer Retailers chart.

Professional reviews examine a specific board but seldom rate the manufacturer overall. It's a different thing altogether.
