Help for capturing surgery videos please?

1080 i50 is an abbreviation for "recording at a resolution of 1920 * 1080 widescreen, with 50 pictures per second interlaced.

As for the recording device, you should probably take a recorder that specifically mentions recording capability of 1080 i50, as that isn't a very common format to record in. This one does, for example.

But maybe someone else here can give you more hands-on experience.

edit: For your info, you will also need a DVI to HDMI adapter (any one should do) with either of these devices.

Erm, I would actually ask this at AVS forum, I am sure someone knows much more about this stuff than here.

That said, you want to take the feed from the scope, and then save contents for later viewing. I assume you need to as close as lossless as possible?
I would look for a device that supports HEVC (H.265) codec, for the best picture / file size, but, since that is fairly new, you might have to settle for H.264 instead.
However, if you need lossless, then you can store it RAW, but, that is TBs of data for one hour content.
If you don't need lossless, you could get something like this https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/h264prorecorder, but again, I suggest you ask in the other forum I mentioned above. Lots more pros there.

Olympus is a big name in endoscopy field . In india there should be other users. Can you ask them? Or you could ask Olympus itself. If you would rather ask your fellow medical professionals there should be medical forums where this can be asked. In consumer field, Oly codecs is not regarded as good as fellow m4/3 consortium members Panasonic or Blackmagic cameras. No idea in medical field though.

Thanks guys.

I don't mind lossless at all. I am currently using a Panasonic DVR with a HDD for capture and then copying the files to a DVD, but the built in DVD drive is having problems, so am looking to change.

I think I will look at that Hauppage one. This has a S-video in too, so I can also use my older camera.
