Help for a newb with a weird issue?

Hey All,
I have charter spectrum 60mb service, an Arris SB6141, and a Netgear R6400. Recently my connection has had periodic dropouts, and when it is connected it is slow enough to almost be unusable.

When I connect modem--router(with wifi broadcast turned off)--PC hardwired I see connection speeds of 1-3 mb/sec. The modem signal report and logs are as follows:

When I connect modem--PC hardwire I see connection speeds of 55-65 mb/sec. The modem signal report is as follows:

So far I have tried updating the router firmware to newest version, changing cat5 cable between components. Does anyone have any ideas on why adding a router to the network would cause poor signal/communication between modem and ISP like this? Also the error log show alot of "MDD loss" what is this? Thanks for any insight you may have!
 
Something doesn't make sense here. Your modem screenshots show it using completely different channels when your router is plugged in and channel 2 is out of spec. The signal strength is modem to ISP. Your downstream devices don't have any impact on that. That said, first thing to check whenever you're having issues is any splitters on your COAX line and bypass them, at least for testing.
 
Thanks XM. The modem is the first and only item on the coax line entering the house. No splitters at all. I agree it doesn't make sense. I've repeated the test a few time to make sure. I only get 6 downstream channels when the router is connected between the modem and PC and channel 2 is always very low on power. When I remove the router I see 8 different channels all with better and consistent power levels.
 
Interesting how it's 6 channels. It's often 1,2,4,8,16,24,32. Sure there isn't a scrollbar on that screen? It could be an extremly bad power supply, modem starting to fail or critters that have bitten your COAX cable outside your home and is now the grounding/shielding is compromised causing issues when two things are connected. Since it's so variable on the modem end, I would start there and try an different one. Yes, I know that isn't easy, but might as well use that as an excuse to get a good one that supports the maximum amount of channels your ISP supports.
 
Is charter still providing modems as part of the service, in other words "free".

I agree, inspect physical, try a different modem
