Help flashing my burner?

I've been having some trouble with my Iomega zipCD 12x10x32 (rebadged Sanyo CRD-BP1300P), so I want to flash the Sanyo firmware onto it, as I dont see any available updates from iomega. I run the flashing program... the lights on the burner flash up alternately very fast (busy/write/busy/write/busy/write) then stayed busy for a few seconds, then I was told the flash was successful and to reboot. Guess what?

EVERYTHING still tells me the burner is an Iomega ZipCD. I flashed it again, cold booted, still an Iomega. Am I doing something wrong? The program I'm using is "WinFlash". Is there a way to download the current firmware to look at it?

edit: hmm... i flashed different versions of the sanyo firmware onto it (1.02 and 1.06) and the version the drive reports changes, but the name still says Iomega zipcd

Mine is a rebadged sanyo crd-bp1300p (Note that iomega sells TWO different drives under the same name) so I don't think flashing plextor firmware on a sanyo drive would be wise... It even mentions the sanyo on the page you linked.

However, it also appears that flashing the firmware won't necessarily change the name the drive reports, since they have a special app to rename the drives. Maybe it is in fact flashing my drive.

That is true - the ID of the drive comes from a chip that doesn't get flashed. Just curious - what doesn't work right the way it is?

DMA... I can only have the drive in PIO mode or it reads unreliably and makes 100% coasters. In PIO, it slows my computer down and when I burn winamp skips even when set to the absolute highest thread priority.
