Help Flashing ASUS A8N-SLi Deluxe Bios

I am having trouble figuring out how to flash my bios from 1002 to 1016.

All I have is a USB and I can't find any information on updating the BIOS with that. In my boot device priority it is listed under Hard Drives.

Do I need to disconnect the hard drives for it to only recognize the USB drive?

Has anyone done this before starting with the 1002 BIOS?

You can always download the latest BIOS and save it on your hard disk. Afterwards you can use ASUS?s update utility and choose to update your BIOS from a file. That always worked for me. I suggest that you do not choose to update directly from the internet as many have reported problems with this. Since this is a windows based utility it would also be good to close all programs prior to flashing your BIOS.

In any case, I have no idea and I have the same board. Perhaps a CD?

I have read as many reads prior to writing this. Although I appreciate the help, I know a windows based flash is a gamble and I do not have the funds to gamble with.

I know you can make a bootable CD from Nero, which I did. It boots me into DOS when I set my priority to CD ROM in BIOS. The question is, how do I start the flash from my C:\ ?

When I dir/p it shows my BIOS.rar on the desktop and the AWDFLASH.rar that I downloaded from the ASUS website. Do I unrar it to my desktop and load again in hopes of it showing the .exe?

I am totally stumped on how to Flash this BIOS without a floppy. I put the BIOS.bin and AWDFLASH.exe on my USB Card but it does not show up in DOS. Only my two hard drives show up.

Try this LINK. Shows you how to configure an usb stick to be a boot disk. This should work as long as your board has the option to boot off of usb device. Also extract all files necessary to flash the bios onto a folder and copy them onto the usb stick.

Have not tried this personally as I have an usb floppy (good thing I didn't trash it :laugh that I use for bios flashing, but this seems to work well for those who tried.

If you can't use usb stick, I would download an image from bootdisk.com. Download the simple image for bios flashing. I would use an ISO utility like UltraISO to dump the bios folder into the ISO file and then burn the disk, so that you have the necessary files to flash the board on the CD that you just burned.

Seems like a lot of work but it really just sounds worse than the actual work.. Lol.. Good luck.

Thank you maxSe, I will definitely try this as soon as I get home.

Only problem with the USB boot disk is in my Boot Priority, it only lists "Hard Drives" and nothing specific. In the Hard Drives section it does list them individually.

Would I need to unplug my HD's for it to recognize only the USB?

I think the CD is going to end up working until I get around to buying a new Floppy Drive. That definitely seems like the way to go

I think I had the same Asus board while back... It's running as a HTPC at my little bro's place now.. lol..

I know that it only lists Hard Drives in the bios for boot priority, but there should be another section below it (if I remember correctly) that has a separate Hard Drive section where you can set the priorities if you have multiple hard drives. If you see your usb drive in that list, you should be able to set that as the 1st boot drive and you should be good to go.

I don't think you need to unplug any of your hard drives (won't hurt to try if you're going to open up your case). It should detect it regardless imo.

I am looking online for an internal USB. They are hard to find these days.

I was wondering if an external Floppy Drive connected by USB will act the same as an internal?

This would make life easier but I have a feeling it would be read as USB instead of Legacy Drive..

If you're going to buy one, just buy a regular legacy floppy drive - should be able to pick one up for $10~15 shipped. Open up your case and connect it to flash the bios and disconnect and put it away..
