Hello.

I just bought a HP 40X SCSI cdrom from Computergeek. Awhile back at Hot deals forum there was a thread about this drive being flased to a Plextor 40X cdrom. If somebody has the site or the file needed to flash my unit please let me know where to get it from. My email is draffutt@yahoo.com just in case you still have the file on hand. TIA.

I think I might have it..
I'll email you an attatchment.

I haven't tried it yet, but a friend said to make sure all other SCSI devices aren't running when you run the program: HP2Plextor.exe

I would definitely recommend AGAINST using the file mentioned previously to rename your drive.
That file--if it's the same one I'm familiar with-- was specifically written to change the name of 12x10x32 CDRW drives to Plextor equivalents. If you use that file, you may render your CDROM unusable.

I used that file a week ago to change my HP 40X to the Plextor 40X Max, worked like a charm. 1st run the file, reboot your computer, then flash CD drive to latest 1.12 BIOS, reboot again.

Again, use at your own risk.

beware of the .exe files you get from people on here!! Sounds like a good way for someone to send you a virus :Q :Q :Q

My point with these files is you have to know specifically which hp2plextor file you're using, because within the coding is a name change to a particular device. It doesn't just magically change the name from HP to Plextor generically...these files are written to change specific devices to other specific devices. And the one I've seen is definitely one that will change an HP CDRW to a particular Plextor CDRW. Running that file on an HP CD-ROM will probably render it useless, as it will appear that it's a cdrw to the pc when it's not.
