Flashed the N32LD128; completed ok. Hit F1 to reboot. Hit DEL to go to SETup. Set optimized settings. Saved. Now just a beep every few seconds. Blank screen. What did I do wrong and is there a way out?

TIA...David

1) try unplugging the computer from the wall, removing the CMOS battery, and using the jumper or onboard microswitch to clear the CMOS for about 20 seconds. Put the battery back in, plug in the system and see where that gets you.

2) try holding down the Insert key on the keyboard before and during power-up.

Good luck :)

This is definately the best advice you're going to get, if neither works the chances are something went severely wrong with the flash and you're going to need the CMOS chip replaced.

Have tried your suggestions without success. I can't believe I just trashed this board...have not had it 24 hours! this has not been a good day.

What is involved in CMOS replacement? I can not tell if it is socketed or not...it does not appear to be surface mount.

I guess to the FS section with a guarenteed DOA!

Yes sir. That is the board.

Well, bad news is I mentioned your problems on TS and a couple of people said there were flashing problems with that particular board, so you might want to google it and see what problems other people have had.

Good news is if you look closely Smack bang in the middle of the board at the very bottom is your removable Bios chip, they're pretty cheap to replace, just gotta find a replacement chip, I recommend starting with your manufacturer.

There should be a way to recover the original bios though and like mechBgon suggested this is done by pressing insert.

I don't know your board though, however DFI might have made the key something different, so check through your motherboard manual and read the bios information thoroughly.

edit: just read your pm, if it posted after you flashed it and it won't post now then it sounds like a bad board, I would recommend swapping it from the retailer (if you bought it new).

:)

I don't have the manual for that model of DFI yet. A thousand poxes on my dial-up connection! :frown: But look in your manual and see if they have a recovery feature.

Or there's always http://www.badflash.com if you get desparate :) They'll sell you a new chip pre-programmed with the desired BIOS.

Did buy new from NewEgg....this particular board is only supported by manufacturer (can not get the NewEgg "insurance"). Will contact DFI in morning and see what they can provide.

Downloading manual now...the one that comes with it is just for quick startup...hopefully the download version is more complete.

Will keep you posted and thanks for the assistance and suggestions.
