HELP! First computer build and my mobo wont Post!

Please help me, I have just gotten in all of the components I need for my 1st computer that I built. Here is the specs:

NF7-S v2.0 Mobo
AMD 2500+ Barton
Cooler Master aero 7 lite
Radeon 9800 Pro
Corsair 3200 DDR (512mb stick)
50x cd rom drive
40 gig hdd
550w PSU (generic)
Chieftec Dragon Case


I put everything in as the guide said and connected all the connectors. When I flip the switch on the back of my PSU a little red light comes on in the corner of the mobo, but then I press the power button and nothing happens, no fans spin, no noise, nutthin. I dont know whats going on. Please help me out! What could I have done wrong? I can provide you guys with pics of the setup if you need them, but I need someone to host them for me. Thanks for all your help, I know I will have this system running in no time... Hopefully...

First of all, only install the video card, cpu+heatsink/fan, and ram. Test to see if it boots.

If it boots, add in the floppy (if you have one), CD and HD. Test to see if it boots.

Did you get the header connections on correctly connecting the case switches/lights to the motherboard?

can i ask why you only got 1 stick of ram

switch another PSU in there if you can. also make sure your power LED is installed corectly in the mobo.

Ideas: Make sure you have the power switch connector on the right jumpers. Reseat everything. Try switching out video cards (this happened to me last night; computer wouldn't start with my Viper V770 in it, replaced with Radeon 7500, worked). Make sure your PSU is set to 110/115 V.

I have tried all of that, except different video card, and different psu. Ill will keep you guys posted, any more ideas?

If the video card or ram is bad you should get a beep code of some sort.

Your motherboard or CPU might be bad.

Try booting without the video card and/or RAM in and see if you get anything.

One other possibility is that you have 'extra' case standoffs which can short the mobo. This is easy to miss for a first time builder.

Ok, I have the mobo out of the case on an antistatic bag. I switched PSU's and now I have what seems to be a working computer. Excpet I dont have any video. I switched out my 9800 pro to a Geforce 2 MX and no video either. Any more hints?

Do you get beep codes? Or all the stuff is just spinning? If you get no beep codes then there's something wrong with your parts, not your video card. And remember, sometimes when a video card goes bad it still gives a display just filled with lines or checkerboards so if you're getting nothing I wouldn't suspect the video card right off.

When I first started building computers, I wouldn't get any video either. My problem was I could never get the video card to sit right in the AGP slot. Over time I figured out how to put it in correctly the first time. You might try playing around with how you put the video card in the AGP slot.

Yea, remember there is usually a white-pin you slide out to slot in your video card into the AGP slot, I always make sure it is connected properly by pressing down with moderate force.

Just read your motherboard manual, it will tell you how to properly fit the card.

I have tried 3 different video cards, 2 monitors, and trust me, the video cards are in the mobo correctly. Its not the first time I put in a new video card.I bought everything brand new, excpet for my mobo, which I got from dew042 off of the forums. More input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Got it working, it was my switch on the back of my PSU, was set at 220 or whatever, so switched it back to 130 and its working. Thanks for your help.
