I need to set up a print server and I need the Ip address of the printer. The printer is an older model and I have tried everything I could to find it, but cant. Is there some sort of software I can use thru windows. It's connected thru a router.

Is the printer network capable (i.e does it have a network card built in) or does it / will it depend on the print server for communications with the pc's on your network?

If it's the latter, then you don't need an IP address for it. Otherwise, you need to let us know what make/model of printer it is

It worked before I had to reinstall the server software (hard drive died). And we used the server as the printer server as well. Whenever we installed a new computer we would go to the server and install it from there. It does have a network card I just checked. It is a Minolta Di 151/Pi 1501.

I assume you're using a Ms Windows network. I've just had a quick look on the Minolta web site as I didn't recognise the model and I see it's a Copier and the PI1501 is the optional PC interface which looks like it's a Parallel Printer Port card (although the documentation vaguely mentions connecting via RJ45 cabling).

So the procedure in this case would be to install the printer on the server using the drivers originaly supplied or downloaded from the minolta web site if they're no longer available. Then share the printer and finally make sure that any pc that you want to be able to print to it has the minolta printer installed with the port pointing to the shared resource on the server.

hope this helps
