Help finding a very old article

I thought someone in this forum might be able to help me... I'm currently doing work in ocular biomechanics and can't find the most oft-cited work in this area. It's very old and in German, but even a German version will do. Anyway, the article is cited as

von Helmholtz, H. Uber die akkommodation des auges. Arch. Ophthalmol. 1855

I believe the journal title is "Archives of Ophthalmology." I'm pretty sure this is excerpted from a book he wrote regarding his famous principle of accommodation which someone has recently challenged. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tried the school/university library? These places can order copies of such things from wherever ... and a proper librarian will be more than pleased to do this, since this is what their profession is about.

I agree, a good librarian should be able to find it.
However are you sure about the name of the journal?
Back in 1855 most of th journals were German or French, I doubt Helmholtz would have published in an english Journal (even if the article was written in German).

I have access to some good databases but I could not find anything about "Archives of Ophthalmology." 1855, the collections seem to start at around 1872.
I did find another reference to the same article

"Uber die akkommodation des auges" Albrecht von Grafe's Archiv
für Ophthalmologie 1 (1855), pp. 1-89.

Which is consistent with the name of the journal being "Arch. Ophthamol" and the fact that it is written in german.

That sounds right. None of the librarians here would touch it. Apparently, if it's not English, it's negligible. I'll have a look for that one, thanks.
