Alright, Its time to upgrade finally with a bigger one coming in a couple weeks...more one that in a bit..

There was a setup reccommended that included an Athlon 3000+, I was wondering something, since im close to buying everything, I noticed that particular one only came at 1.8ghz which im at now (obviously im assuming its O/C potential is far better then the one below it on newegg which comes at 2ghz)

If im not sure if I plan on doing a lot of O/C right away which do you think would be a better deal? I like the speed, but dont know if I want to have to do a lot of O/C to get there... however, at $130, its not a bad price either I dont think, so perhaps its still the best bet... what do you think? Go with the one below it thats at 2ghz already or stick with this one that O/C's better?

Here is what im thinking....what do you think..

Abit KN8 Socket 939/PCI-E mainboard

Athlon 64 3000+

SAPPHIRE Radeon X850XT 256MB PCI E

Budget wise this is good for me right now and considering my signature, it would be a nice jump up. I think im making a good decision in the video card. The X1000's cards are too expensive at this point for me.

I might even pick up another sitkc up gig ram....

Now, here is my other later UPGRADE.... im considering picking up the Dell 2405. Ive read sooo many articles and posts here and they have all be very helpful. Here is (are) my question (s)

1. I have read so much about the monitor being such a resource hog at just its native resolution at todays games. How will this upgrade im doing handle it?

2. Also, the debate about how much money you need to pour into this monitor in order to kep up with the demand of games and such. Is it really that extreme? Cant you just scale the resolution down a bit and wouldnt it still look amazing? Now ive never owned an LCD before and I have other questions about the monitor itself but they can wait until I get closer to buying it and a seperate thread...

Thanks..

Thanks

I say stop wasting your time with the A64 and get a real computer....a 386sx with a 512kb trident vga card, real gaming power

If your budget is really tight, a 3000+ will do you just fine. If the difference in price isn't that great, grab the 3200+ (2.0Ghz) since it uses a 10 multiplier... you can generally get a better OC with it, but nothing drastic. Motherboard looks good, although you can go with the Abit KN8 SLI version for about $20 more. It uses a heatpipe chipset cooler for silence and of course SLI, for the cost difference you can't beat it.

The monitor is going to be too much for that x850xt really. You might be able to play some games (older) on it, but you won't be able to use AA/AF or any other eye candy setting especially in newer games. When you reduce the resolution on an LCD the picture quality suffers bigtime, even if you crank up the eye candy the onscreen image will still look like ass. If you want widescreen look at a 19 or 20" panel, and use the money saved on a better video card, you'll be much happier with it.

I am not a member of the forum police, but shouldn't this thread be in GH?

Well my question was mainly focused on the video card and monitor purchase... the mobo and cpu purchase just came along with the question so I thought the video forum was still appropriate...

I Like that ABIT KN8 SLI mobo though, think ill go with that...thanks
