I've never done anything like this before so I'm sorry if this request is "rough." My sister-in-law is participating in a bike ride against Multiple Sclerosis (MS), which my mother suffers from, and I'm looking for any, and all, kind souls to sponsor her. My goal is $1000 and my plan is to do it $10 at a time. I'm aiming for "quantity over quality" in regrads to donations. If you are in a position to donate more that $10 that's great. If even $10 is a bit much then please donate what you can. Even if it's only $1. Imagine if every member of AT donated just $1.

Below is the e-mail Brenda (my sister-in-law) sent out to friends & family.

Dear Family and Friends,

What if everyday you woke up not knowing if you'd be able to get out of bed or hold your child or grandchild? For many people with multiple sclerosis, this is their reality. This is reality for my mother-in-law, Jo Carol, whom many of us know and love. Days can be challenging, but Jo Carol continues to battle this disease one day at a time.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) usually strikes adults in the prime of life - between the ages of 20 and 50. It is a chronic disease of the central nervous system affecting the brain and spinal cord. One new case of MS is diagnosed every hour. It comes and goes unpredictably, leaving people to wonder, "Will I become paralyzed, blind or have trouble walking? Will I be able to raise my family and continue my career?" Currently there is no cure for MS.

I am joining in the fight against this devastating disease and fighting for Jo Carol and others who suffer with this disease. On November 13th and 14th, I will be participating in the 2004 MS Bike Tour, cycling 150 miles. I am raising money to support the National MS Society and fund ongoing research to fight multiple sclerosis. I am asking for your help to raise money for this cause. **EDIT 3: SAARWebDesign is offering even more incentive to open up your wallets. The next 15 people to donate at least $25 will get 6 months of free webhosting (100MB space and 1GB bandwidth per month) from SAARWebDesign. Only 15 free accounts are available and here are the guidelines.
1. You must donate either thru the MS website (which is linked above) or to me via PayPal.
2. You must PM me the name that appears on your credit card/PayPal account so I know who is who.
3. I will go by the timestamps on PayPal and on the "donation notice" e-mail (which is sent to Brenda each time a new donation is made via the MS website) to determine what order the donations were made.
4. After we have all our "winners" I'll post their names in the thread as well as further instructions on how to obtain the 6 months of free webhosting gractiously donated by SAARWebDesign.
5. Please be patient. :) It's just me and my sister-in-law (whom lives in another state) coordinating on this so there will be lag between the time you donate and the updates I post here.

If you donatve over the internet the amount you donate is not public info (only Brenda can see the donated amount), and donors names will appear on Brenda's "home page" that she has w/in the national MS site. It's just a little page that basically has a pic of my mom and niece. After you donate you get sent to that page, but I haven't figured out a way to navigate to it w/o donating (I'm sure you can, it just not very obvious how to do it).

You can also send a M.O. instead of a check if you like.

Based on the response I guess people are not passionate in fighting MS. Instead they would much rather fight Microsoft. :)

I'm sure they'd rather fight Microsoft, but I know there are some out there that are willing to fight MS too. ;)

My Step Mother has MS really bad. She is almost a complete invalid. I hope someday they can cure this terrible disease.

I hope a cure can be found some day too. That is one of the most horrible aspects of the disease is that you never know how bad it is going to be. Someone might have a less severe level of MS for years and then wake up one day paralyzed. It is complete unpredictable and can be completely devistating.



Thank you ATOT for the bumps and the donations!!! The deadline to donate doesn't end 'til Nov. 10 and, w/yer help, I want to keep this thread alive until then. :)

I'll donate when I get a chance (I have a debit card that gets money put in every month from my dad's account, but I'm broke and for whatever reason the transfer didn't happen this month and he's doing it manually).


Yea, my grandmother has MS, she can't do much of anything, when she talks it's barely understandable, and her vision is going south now too :(. I just hope I don't get it myself.
