I know i am a newbie at the anandtech forums, but i would like you all to do you best and help one of the number one killers in the world, AIDS.

The reason i am doing this is because my gf is Miss Teen New Jersey, and she is running for Miss America Outstanding Teen, and she needed a platform for it. She decided to go with the fight against AIDS and to help find a cure. By joining this program, and makeing your purchases online though this site, you proceeds go to help the cause. When she goes down to florida this summer, she will be able to show what she has done as far as spreading awareness and getting people involved and supporting the effort.

This is not spyware or advertising for this site, this is just someone trying to help someone they love help millions....

here is the link to check it out http://pashop.buyersport.com/

now what i need from you guys is for you either leave your email address's here or pm them to me so i can send you an email that will give her credit for you guys joining and buying stuff...

thanks a million :)

That's great and all, but I'm more worried about cancer than I am AIDS. After all most people who have it live a high risk lifestlye. Roll the dice and sooner or later it is gonna come up snake eyes for you. Sure some get it through blood transfusions, etc, but for the most part the people that have it did it to themselves by living the life they do.

That same could be said for many types of cancer - look at everyone who smokes, eats unhealthy, or goes out in the sun too often and gets cancer.

True, but what percentage of people who do those things end up with cancer? I would be curious to see the infection rates of people who engage in the lifestyles where contracting AIDS is a high probablity and compare them to dumbasses who smoke and end up with lung cancer, etc, etc, etc.... AIDS infection is much more of a sure bet if you shoot up with dirty needles, fvck someone with AIDS, etc... than coming down with cancer because you smoke or eat too much red meat.

The question is - what makes one more deserving than the other?

Cancer will affect more people that did nothing but live and have the bad luck of coming down with it. AIDS for the most part infects those who live a lifestlye where it is likely to happen. Therefore cancer is the more important of the two in regards to finding a cure for it since people can come down with it for no other reason than that they are currently alive and breathing. The junkie, prosititute, monkey fvkcer, etc...have a choice to not live a lifestyle that is dangerous enough to kill them.

Nobody is *deserving* of either, but is it much easier to avoid and/or minimize the risk of getting aids than it is to do the same for cancer, you have to admit.

Great job picking the worst possible candidates to support your point. What about the woman who smoke 3 packs a day, of the idiot who goes to the beach too often without any kind of sunscreen? Those can both be seen as choices that are dangerous enough to kill them.

That said, what about the husband who has always been faithful to his wife, and thinks he's in a monogamous relationship, only to find out that his wife screwed the plumber 5 years ago, caught aids, and now he's got it too? How is he any less deserving?

I never said anyone was more deserving, Medicine Bear made that distinction in his first post and I simply wanted to know why.

There are always going to be exceptions, but for the most part which disease is aquired by living a high risk lifestyle?
