my teachers computer wont boot
i get a hit f1 to retry f2 to enter setup
i booted a 98 startup disk and got that there wasnt a fat or fat32 partition
partition magic gives a causeway error 09
 
You can download some disk diagnostic tools from each of the hard drive makers. Run the tool and it'll tell you if the drive is functionally working.
 
The hd may be ok, just corrupted. You can try booting with the startup disk and typing FDISK /MBR, then try rebooting normally but I doubt that will help. Also try FDISK and select "display partition info" (something like that) and see what it displays. You might be able to delete the corrupted partition reinstall windows. All info on that drive will be lost however.

Most likely all info on that drive is toast anyway though.
