Just finished putting 2nd nforce together and all was working fine, but then started to lock up after use. I then noticed that fan on CPU not spinning.

PC still boots and windows XP loads, so at least CPU is not fried.

It is a retail AMD XP1700 with stock fan.

How can I tell if it is the fan that is broke or the fan power connector on the board.

If fan is bad, do I get a replacement through newegg.com or AMD?

thanks for the help,
Paul

Try hooking the fan up to another fan header. Or you could try a different fan. Be careful, don't run the cpu more than a few seconds without a fan.

Try to get it through Newegg, but they will probably tell you take it up with AMD. DO NOT run that proc without a fan at any point!!!
