Hello all
For a few reasons I want my facebook account airtight to all except people I activate as "Friends". In the past I spent quite a bit of time switching all the settings I could find to 'friend' or 'private' or whatever lingo they use. I went through it recently, and did the same, although I could swear it seemed as if they make it purposely hard for the average user to be totally private. They should have an "Airtight!" button on the front page to go invisible if you want, lol. Anyway, today I was shocked to see my account from a stranger's account, who is not a "friend", and it clearly showed:
-ALL of the photos in my account (not just my profile picture)
-map of where I live
-"friends" list with photos and info
-my hometown
-my "likes" list
-my "favorites" list
After that I spent about an hour going through the settings labyrinth, and was only able to 'turn off' the first security breach (all my photos), and I had to go through so many menus that I can't remember even how I did that. The rest of the list still stands, and I've tried everything and can't get privacy.
I would hate to have to terminate the account, as I live overseas and its been helpful for some things, such as emergency networking during the tsunami here last year. There's also quite a few family pictures and whatnot stored on there.
But I have some damn good reasons, both private and business, not to have all the above info available to the public.
I thought I had made a mistake somewhere, so I checked some of my friends accounts who I know would not want that info public, and was shocked the same problem, often worse.
Its making me a bit paranoid now about what personal information has been leaked to who.
I have a sneaky suspicion Facebook does this on purpose, and makes changing it hard for the average user, to increase revenue.
Is there a way to have only my profile picture and name displayed to 'non-friends', or must I stop using facebook?
Thank you so much for your help.
