Loaded xp professional on new epox 8kha+ with amd 1600+, gf3 ti200, wd 80gb.
Everything went swell, until trying to configure dial up connection.
(56k pci internal modem)
Typed in my user name for my isp and also my password which
is 8 charactors long.
Then when trying to use this to connect to my isp the
dialog box shows my username, and in the password spot
there are SIXTEEN charactors! (it doesnt actually display the password,
just ****************) I can change the password in this dialog box
back to the correct 8 charactor password
and it will connect, but it wont store the correct password!!??
thanks in advance for the help

Have you tried connecting without changing it?? I don't know if XP does this or if it's done in this case, but passwords are often shown with a set number of *'s regardless of how long the password is so people can't tell how long it really is when looking at it.

Does xp use password lists? Try searching for and deleting the .pwl file associated with your user name or all user names. That may also help if xp uses those files.

May also want to uncheck save password and login once. Hopefully then it will not have the password saved when you come back next time, then you can recheck save password and see if it gets it right that time.

I've actually had this problem once a long time ago, but I can't remember at all what I did to fix it.

Thanks for the help guys,
I found a site which had others with similar probs,
was told to edit permissions for a certain key
(i forget which one it is now, i have it at home)
in the registry, and then delete that key, and
then it worked.
thanks again
