I have a Sonicwall Soho TZW that seems to be bricked.

I have followed the instructions to the point to reset the firmware.
  • unplug everything (including power)
  • press and hold reset
  • power up and wait until test light starts flashing
  • release reset
  • wait until test light glows solid yellow
  • connect ethernet to LAN port
  • set computer IP to 192.168.168.200, subnet 255.255.255.0 (tried without Gateway, Gateway set to 192.168.168.1 and 192.168.168.168
  • try connecting to soho to upload new firmware by typing 192.168.168.168 in browser ... no deal

What is wrong? ... the LAN activity light is active ... but I simply cannot connect to the #$%@#$% machine.

Update - finally got the router unbricked BUT:

how do I configure this !@#$!@3 to act as a wireless bridge?

Internet == Router ~~~ (wireless) ~~~ Sonicwall == PCs

you're taking the right steps...could be faulty hardware. after you reset the device, can you ping rather than web to 192.168.168.168? no default gateway should be required on your end since this device is on the same subnet.

when did you buy the device? i believe it has a one-year manufacturer warranty...

The SonicWALL SOHO TZW reached end of life on December 31, 2006, and SonicWall no longer offered technical suport after January 1, 2008.

TZW Technical FAQ

In other words....it doesn't look good.

It appears that those boxes retailed for $900. Looks like they still sell for $200 to $500. But there's one on Ebay right now, claimed to be functional, returnable, with zero bids and ending today, starting at $9.99.

I have to admit that I am not the biggest fan of Sonicwall.

after trying around today for 2 hours I finally managed to get it working .. by accident.

the trick was to restart the router after the whole reset routine.
then my pc connected without any issues as described in the manual.

Yeah. These were ridiculously expensive a while ago.
I might consider selling it and getting a simpler router.

Anyone know how to configure this as a wireless bridge?
Again, I have been trying to configure it for hours to get it to work - no luck
