Help! Evtsvc.exe takes up all resources until I crash!

I have windows xp pro and whenever my computer is on or when i turn it, EVTSVC.EXE takes up all my resouces when i press CTR + ALT + DEL and bring up proccesses tab. It does it until i crash it (end program) and then its fine. HELP! How do i disable?

Do you have antivirus software? I would think that is the Event Viewer recording something wrong .....but there is not an EXE that runs in the background named like that.

I use to have Norton Antivirus but uninstalled it, but I still have Norton Cleansweep, but I disabled that from startup.

That does sound like the Event service, which is the service that records events so that the Event Viewer can show them. You can disable it in the Services tool in Administrative Tools (you can't Stop the service, only disable it then reboot). But you probably ought to fix whatever is causing the service to go haywire. Look in the Event Viewer to see what it's logging.

Of course, I don't seem to have such a file on my system, so it may not be that. Search for that file name, then look at the properties for the file and see who it comes from and what it is supposed to be.

it is a stupid realplayer update file...........i should have known
it was under C:\program files\common files\real\update_ob\
