well this is my forth a7v mobo that i got

the first mobo was fine and all, until i bad flashed it, so i brought it back to the store where i bought it they fixed it for me, not sure if they replaced the bios or mobo (they told me they replaced mobo)
then i started having problems

when i held down 3 keyboard keys or more the mobo beeps
as long as i keep it held, it will beep every half a second.

plus like once a month it makes these screech noise when i boot up then goes to disk boot failure insert system disc. i tried just pressing anykey but it just repeats the message, so i hit reset my system boots up fine with no problems. this happend once every few weeks to a month. i noticed it only happened when i first boot up the system in the morning.
the next mobo i send to asus myself to get it fixed.

they fixed it and send it back, same problem

this is the 4th one, i would like to solve this problem, because when it gets worst like the other mobos i had, the pc freezes at post, at dos, and windows.

i brought the system back and forth to the computer store, then i found out the system only allows me to get to windows and not freeze for 5 min when i close the system and let it stand for 30minutes

so i dont want this to happen again with this mobo.
or i'll have to try another kind of mobo

what i'm thinking is that it might not be the mobo problem yet, but if i let it like this, it's going to get worst like the others eventually rendering it useless.
cause this forth one, i installed it myself but i copied the exact settings it used to.

this is like the third day i got it back from repair
the system runs fine after i installed it. but when i pressed more then 3 keyboard buttons, the mobo beep
which i realize the problem still exist. I just got the disk boot failure today when i first boot up in the morning.
also i turned on the virus boot detect now, cause i read something like this happened to the older 1003 bios. but this didn't fix the beeping of mobo if i press and hold down more then 3 keys
it beeps in dos, windows, anywhere

could u please tell me, what could cause this?
bad ide cable? connected something wrong?
like the speaker connector
when i got this mobo it is on bios 1010a
my older one was 1007, i formatted and everything

reason y i think it is something connected wrong cause the first mobo was fine, until i brought it to the computer store, after that all mobo has the same problem. but i'm not sure what since i only know little bit more then basic knowledge

it couldn't be my hd or anything else cause i tested them all

i'm running on winxp pro
before it was on win98se still has these problems

geforce 2mx, athlon 900mhz thunderbird
sound blaster live
384 mb ram

one and one more thing i noticed, when i'm playing games like q3, at certain times, my cursor just flicked somewheres else when i didn't even move my mouse, not sure if this is caused by heat, my temp is 49 C. idle and some hot days it is 51 C idle

i have my case opened and have a house fan blowing directly at it. i tried a7v troubleshooting forum and many others but no one seems to have this problem or know what causes it. even asus themselfs couldn't help. all they do is say send me your mobo, we'll replace it.

Ok first to address the beeping you get when you hold down keys on the keyboard when booting: One of the things tested during the POST operation is the keyboard, if you are holding down keys while you are booting, it thinks there is a keyboard malfunction (stuck key) and gives the appropriate beep code. Now to address your main issue: when you get disk boot failure that means it cannot boot of the hard disk, I would first try an fdisk /mbr, this will clear your master boot record, and windows will automatically generate a new one, if that does not help the problem I would suspect a bad hard drive, verify that there are no physical errors by running a thorough scandisk. Then try the manufacturers diagnostic programs on the drive. I really think it is a bad drive, but if that doesn't turn up anything, check back in.

well, firstly the beeping of the mobo when i held down keyboard buttons (3 or more)

the mobo beeps when i do this in windows!, games, anywhere
but it never did this before when i was using the first mobo which was bad flashed.
and yes i did format and reinstall windows everytime i got a new mobo

and second, the main issue, i checked my hd with maxblast which is a through checking software from maxtor
shows no error.
also if it was my hd problem wouldn't it stop working at all? cause i only get this boot up error once in a while, i donno what triggers it
i makes these beep----screech noise from mobo, not the speakers
then just shows disk boot failure... but all i have to do is hit reset and my pc boots up. for my other mobos this happened for like half a year, then i keep getting these freezes at dos, windows...etc but when i got a new mobo replacement the system works perfectly
except these 2 problems i'm having, which is y i am wondering if it is some settings or hookup problem which cause this
and after a certain time, it damaged the mobo cause my system to stop working.

could it also be my ultra66/100 cable? i see some bends in it, but just not sure if that could be a problem or not.

Well dude, don't know about your other problems, but I will say this about the beeping w/ the three keys....

It's supposed to happen. I'm sitting here right now at work, on my perfectly functioning Dell Optiplex...sure enough, pressing three keys at the same time makes it beep. It's the computers way of saying that there's an error with your keyboard, or "Why the $#@% are you pressing 3 keys at the same time!?!" Personally, I'd ask the same question. Why ARE you pressing three keys at the same time?

CTRL-ALT-DEL would be the obvious one, but you still don't need to hold it down...

is it your speakers beeping or your mother board? cause my motherboard beeps and it never happen before

i also tried it on my other system, no beeps, i noticed these beeps cause i was playing quake3, sometimes u press a few keyboard buttons at same time, also i donno what caused this but when i'm playing quake, after a while at random times
my cursor just flicks somewheres else when i didn't even move the mouse, is this caused by heat or something?

cause i'm pretty sure if i fix this beep problem then it might also fix that other problem i have. and maybe u r right that this is normal
but i never noticed it before, i also tried setting repeat delay in bios and in windows, when doing the same thing in the num pad, don't have this problem.

i called asus again today, this time they said it might be my power supply, i already have a 300w
they said i need one with these settings +12 volt needs at least 15a, under +5 needs at least 35a
mine is 10a and 30a, i personnally don't think this is the problem, so i called a computer store, even the tech there thinks what i have is enough.

plus i have been using the same hardware eversince without any problems

Damn you don't seem to be having much luck with that mobo , I'd have ditched it long ago :D gotta give you 10/10 for perserverance .

First off check all your components and cables are correctly seated/attached in your pc .

Do you have a spare power supply unit to verify that yours is indeed ok ? The same goes for your ram .

well i'm sure that it's not my ram cause i used ram checking programs on it
plus these ram r pretty new, i had the problem before i even got these rams

and no i don't have a extra power supply that has those spec that the asus told me.

well the worst thing that could happen is the mobo screws up again and i couldn't even boot into dos to format my pc
but then i'll buy another brand!! of mobo and try

or maybe if this one last over a year more, i'll just upgrade before then

cause i seem to be the only one on earth that has this problem :( lucky me, out of so many trillions of people

maybe i'll win a lottery soon?

Yes, the beeping comes from your motherboard. The reason why it's only happened with this one is because not all motherboards do it. I would guess that you could shut that off fairly easily by looking around your BIOS to change something along the lines of beeping on errors...check your manual.

hmm u might be on to something Js

but i already went through my manual many times, there is no beep options
only option i got is halt on error which i can set it to all but keyboard, but not sure if this is releated.

but there r still indication of something fishy going on with my system, cause when i play games it flicks my cursor somewheres else, either caused by heat or something else.

also is there other name that is to the beep option in the bios?
