Help! Error message

What does this mean: msiexec.exe
rundll32.exe-application error
I can't install anything that has an .exe accosiated with it.
When I right click on my computer to look at properties I get
the same error message. Also when I go to remove my usb flash drive
the same happens. Is it windows xp or a component problem?
I did a google search and it came up with a windows installer component
problem.
