hi folks - noobie here

i am trying to install win 98 to a freshly partitioned and formatted HDD. right after scandisk does it's thing, setup loads the wizard and then, immediately, i get an error message that says: "Standard mode: Invalid DPMI return from 040F:9FEB" and the display goes back to my CDR prompt. i've tried copying files to HDD and installing from there: same. i've tried disabling all memory cache functions in BIOS: same. i'm using a regular win98 startup disk. any ideas / links that might help me out?
LOVE these forums BTW. TIA.

Welcome to the forums!

Have you seen this from the MSKB?
It sounds like you're on the right track.
Have you tried a different memory stick?

thanks kgb man

tried that and it doesn't seem to apply - pretty sure ram is ok. i have loaded w/ it before.
i did just install an agp card...do you suppose it has conflict w/ the mem address used by setup?

seem to have found a fix(?). I re-partitioned without large disk support and then formatted (FAT16). then i installed win98...it went ok this way...and used the win98 converter to convert the FAT16 to FAT32. so i found my elbow via my ... other elbow.
