I just installed Win2K and it seems that, when I shut down, the computer doesn't turn off. Instead, Windows displays the "it's now safe to turn off your computer".

Relevant configuration details:
Epox EP-8K7A
Duron 800 (For a week until T-bird 1.4's come out)
Antec 300-watt PSU
No floppy (I was having trouble with my long cable, and had to throw it out. However, my other floppy cables can't reach)
Geforce3 (visiontek)
Hercules Game Theater XP
Intel Pro/100S NIC
Adaptec 2940U2W SCSI

Since I don't have any IDE hard drives, I don't have the VIA 4-in-1's installed. My IDE CD-ROM and my USB seems to work okay.
Any BIOS settings or Win2K settings will be appreciated. Thanks!

I have Win2k installed, but it shutsdown just fine. Maybe it had to do with your case or connectors. I really doubt it's VIa upgrade.

I had Win2K on a P3 system, using this same power supply, video card, etc (different mobo/CPU/RAM, that's it!) - and it shut down fine..

Do I need to turn on ACPI or something - or change a setting in Win2K?

Usually when windows doesn't shut down properly it's because there's a program still open that windows couldn't close. That's the only thing I can think of.

Damn...

I turned ACPI off, and installed Win2K..

The thing is - it SHUTS DOWN fine - except it acts like an AT system - it displays "it's now safe to turn off your computer" instead of turning the computer off.

Can I reinstall Win2K? Or can I just turn ACPI on? Doesn't ACPI cause other problems?

With ACPI off in the BIOS, WinME shuts the computer off just _fine_

I'm reformatting after I get up, going to redo Win98SE, then Win2000... So, to make sure that Windows 2000 can shut itself off properly, ACPI _MUST_ be _ON_?

Taking any advice... thanks in advance.

Good luck Odeen! I'd like to know the answer myself, my secondary system has the same problem (different motherboard that yours).

yep, good luck to you buddy. be sure to have your ACPI on, and also play with different settings there. and the Epox mobo has different power down things. I just used default, but a change in them might result in shutdowns as well.

Try changing your power options in control panel. Choose the APM tab and enable Advanced Power Management.

Firmware, you are a tiny god. My fresh Win2K install shut down like the bitch it is. :p

Wohoo!

Edit: It just shut down again when I forgot to switch it from "shut down" to restart! Yay!
