Help! Epox 8k7a dead PS/2 port?

Hallo,

I put together a system for my dad using the 8k7a, but out of the blue, the PS/2 mouse stopped working(win2k). So I tried another mouse, didn't work. I booted up in Win98, and it gave me the message about it being safe to connect a serial mouse. I then tried a serial mouse, which worked(couldn't find any adapters). The PS/2 mice work fine on other computers.

My question, then, is has anyone ever had the port just die on you? Also, is there a mouse fuse like the keyboard fuse that can be blown if you disconnect it while the system is on?

I asked my dad if he unplugged the mouse while it was on, and he adamantly denies it. But I suspect he'd deny it even if he did do it(though he had no real reason to be unplugging the thing to begin with).

Hmm. Not sure how to proceed. I'm going to leave the serial mouse there for a few days to see if there isn't some kind of weird software conflict going on, but I think the mouse port is dead. Any suggestions on how to fix it? Are there shops that can take care of this sort of thing?
