HELP: EMI Springs questions

I completed my 1st PC Build yesterday(TT Tsunami case and MSI Neo4 mobo) and ran my computer for 10 hours or so and have had no problems. However, I am concerned that my EMI springs are not placed properly.

I have read that the springs should not be in any ports, and none of mine are. However, I also read that the springs should rest "on top" of the jack blocks. Does this mean that no EMI springs should be visible from the outside of the case(i.e. the back of the case)?

If you look at the following picture: http://www.omnicast.net/~tmcfadden/guides/build/IOShield4.jpg

Should those tabs on top and bottom of the parallel port not be visible from outside and somehow be placed " on top" of the parallel port connector? Also, if you look at the ports next to the audio jacks, my USB ports are laid out like that and the EMI springs are touching the metal between the two USB Ports but aren't in the ports themsleves. Is this ok?

I guess bottom line is I am really confused as to what to do with the EMi springs.

Thanks.

Sheesh, use a little common sense. They are there just to provide a good chassis ground connection for each connector. (Something like that, anyway.) The parallel/serial/VGA (if any) ports, those little tabs push inward on the outer shell portion of the connector. For the items covered in a squarish metal box that rises up from the mobo (USB/ethernet/audio/PS2 ports), those grounding tabs should point inwards and push downwards, on top of those metal boxes. They should not accidentally stick into those ports, nor should they be bent the wrong way, and be pointing outwards from the back of the PC. I'm pretty sure that's all that the guide is saying.

Well the reason I keep asking is that I see a lot of people had problems with various things and the solution on the forums seemed to be that the EMI springs weren't contacting the right place. No one seems to take a picture of the back of their PC or otherwise I wouldn't ask!

I'm not an expert but I've never heard about EMI springs causing problems of any sort.

I can't say I've ever seen the EMI springs be the cause of any problem whatsoever, unless they are in the way of what your trying to connect.

Ahh ok cool. I had read some threads here where people had issues w/ onboard audio or something and someone suggested to make sure the EMI springs were making contact with the jack blocks. The OP said that did the trick but I'll stop being so paranoid 🙂. Just don't wanna kill my 1st self-built PC which I just spent $1050 on 🙂.
