I built a new rig recently using an E6850 (GO stepped) on an ASUS P5K-E mobo. My HSF is a Tuniq Tower. It's good, but I doubt it's THAT good :)

I get 8C CPU temps (or very close to that - highest was 11C) with most software programs that I've tried: Probe II, Intel TAT, CPU-Z, Coretemps, etc. I think I've tried every software program that has been suggested to me by forum friends.

Of course I don't want to try to overclock because of the obvious temp problem.

I don't think the software programs are the problem - I read somewhere that the E6850 has a temp sensor pin problem. I called Intel Tech Support and of course they denied that - at least from India.

Anyone have any ideas to help me on this?

Thanks, Noel

has to be temp senors. Coretemp is almost never wrong unless its hardware related and if it is, they come out with a fix in a couple of months.

Did you try the newest coretemp?

aigomorla,

I'm on the road now but will check what version I have in a couple of days - I believe it's the latest, but can't be positive until then... In the meantime, I'll d/l the latest v. on my laptop and replace the one I have on my 6850 rig when I get home.

Thanks for your response...

aigomoria,

I just got home and tried out the latest version of Core Temps, 95.4. It gave me 22 and 22, very reasonable. Thanks for the tip.
