I've been stuck with 56k for a long time and have been waiting for dsl instead of getting cable. Bellsouth is the telco in my area. They say I can get dsl from them on 12/8/02, while companies like Speakeasy, Earthlink, and some others are telling me I can get it now. I really want to get dsl. Do you think the Speakeasy, Earthlink, etc. could be right? What should I do? Thanks for any advice!

goto DSLreports.com and they have a prequalification page (http://www.dslreports.com/prequal) that you can use to see if you can get service.

I've used speakeasy before and i'm not a fan of theirs. DSL Reports will tell you who provides service to your address.

Best bet is to check DSL Reports as stated above, there you can see what service others in your area, use and how they rate, Earthlink has been great for me, I highly recommend them, but keep in mind service may vary from area to area.....what ever you do, don't sign any contracts, you want to be able to get out of service plan, if service becomes crap.

I tried this and I get that i can get dsl from Earthlink, Bellsouth (can't get until 12/8/02 according to company's website and when i called), Speakeasy, Directv DSL (cant get it according to company's web site), Megapath (very expensive), and COFS Snappydsl.net (local seems to be very good isp according to reviews).

 speakeasy is the greatest ISP i've ever used. I am on it now and it's awesome.
