I dont get it.
You'd think the designers of clothes dryers would learn from the washing machine.
The washing machine rotates bi directional.
The dryer spins in only one direction.
So... your large items like quilts and sheets get balled together with the inside still damp.
So why not make a dryer that rotates one direction for a few minutes, then reverses to rotation in the opposite direction, like a washing machine?
Hopefully to help prevent the drying item from balling into one large lump.
Any designers out there, this million dollar idea is on the house.

While we're on the subject, I HATE new low water usage washing machines.
They have to agitate twice as much on half the water, so the clothes are super wrinkled when done.
Then the stupid single direction dryer can't pull all the wrinkles out.

I don't see how changing direction will address your problem.

My washer doesn't change direction btw......

Use lighter load....

Afaik, my washing machine doesn't change direction either. And, are you sure "get balled together" is a product of the dryer, versus how you take them out of the washing machine and stuff them into the dryer?

use lighter loads. just because it all fits into the washer doesnt mean it all goes to the dryer at the same time unless your dryer is bigger than the washer (like laundromats)

My one directional dryer does an incredibly awesome job, thank you. It also has a center rack if I don't want my clothes to tumble.

Not me, love my 3-4 year old whirlpool duet. We had problems after a year with the wiring harness, but a google search plus an 11 dollar part off ebay (wiring harness section) fixed the errors we were getting. Then there was the time mys on got a ton of those rubber band shape bracelets stuck in the pump area which burned out our water pump, but I bought a new pump and fixed that up also, not a fault of the washer. Aside from that though, its great. Well, I guess there's also that coin or two that have somehow made it past the water area and are rattling around inside the washer that is annoying when it is in cycle, but meh, I don't live in the laundry room so no big deal.

But seriously, I love the front load, low water washing machines. They sip detergent and get the clothes CLEAN.

If you buy an inferior dryer, then what do you expect.

I've always bought German, and they alternate the rotation direction, so stuff comes out untangled and uncreased - barely even needs ironing.

Yeah. You can thank NYC for the low water requirements. I hate how they 'auto sense' what the water level should be... I'm going to make sure my next washer has a manual selection....no matter what.

As for dryers, the only way to keep the sheets from balling up is to dry only 1 set of sheets at a time and to stop the cycle 30 minutes in to make sure they're not in a knot.
