1. What does OEM mean?

2. Why is the 2.66 P4 cheaper than the 2.6 P4?

3. Should I buy a case without a powersuply and then buy a high quality one around 400 watts?

4. What brand and speed of memory?

5. Any comments about harddrive brand and monitor brand?

6. Should I try to buy from bestbuy or compusa or should I try Newegg? ( I think I?ll at least but the monitir and case from a store because shiping would likely be expensive for those)

7. Can you recommend any sites with good guides for building PC?s?

8. Did I miss anything?

I?ll be using this computer for gaming. I don?t plan to overclock right away (I?m a noobie), but maybe in 6 months or so I?ll trie it, so I?d like to keep the option open. My budget is about $1500.

THANKS!!!

The 2.6C with 800mhz fsb would be the better choice performance wise.

Isn't that too expensive for a Radeon 9500/9600?

3. An Antec psu is high quality.

5. Personally I prefer Maxtor.

7.
Plenty of guides

150$ for an os, must be XP Pro. If you don't need the extra features save some money and go with home.

But it's looking good.

1. What does OEM mean? OEM = original manufacturer equipment = no fancy box, less/no warranty, no/few instructions/driver. OEM cpu has no HSF

2. Why is the 2.66 P4 cheaper than the 2.6 P4? not familiar with P4 and is too lazy to check, the 2.6 has 800 FSB, and hyper-threading, which the 2.66 is lacking

3. Should I buy a case without a powersuply and then buy a high quality one around 400 watts? mos def do that if you want

4. What brand and speed of memory? PC3200, rated at 400mhz, only buy major brands and no generic

5. Any comments about harddrive brand and monitor brand? all are personal preference. go with the ones with the best warranty on the HD and buy only what you want to spend

6. Should I try to buy from bestbuy or compusa or should I try Newegg? ( I think I?ll at least but the monitir and case from a store because shiping would likely be expensive for those) both are fine. might be a little more expensive. make sure to compare the prices, factoring in TAX. also check hotdeals forum

7. Can you recommend any sites with good guides for building PC?s? i forgot the one that i used. use google to search ya lazy bum

8. Did I miss anything? not that i know of

good luck. see my additions above

Processor choice is fine

Motherboard choice is fine

Corsair RAM is good

Hard drive choice is fine

I would get a Toshiba or Pioneer DVD drive

Lite-on cdrw drives are good

Logitech MX 500 or MS Explorer 3.0 optical mice

2.66 proc is cheaper 'cause it's an older model and slower

I recommend buying everything at Newegg except the monitor

get a radeon 9700 non pro for $215
radeon 9500/9600 suck price/performance
the 9700 NP will be almost twice as fast as a 9500 Pro w/ FSAA & AF

which is faster than a 9600

best buy has kingston HyperX PC3500 DDR on sale this week

$50 per stick after rebate (256 MB)

but you need 2 different addresses to send it or you pay $63 a stick without the rebate which is still cheaper than newegg

make sure you get 2.5 V chips it is marked on the memory and you can tell

make sure you get an 800FSB processor as well

good luck

Processor - good
Motherboard - good

Video card -

At newegg a 9700 non pro is $300 (too much)
I'd like to spend about $200 on one

Sound card (forgot this)

Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! Dolby Digital 5.1 $33

Memory

CORSAIR MEMORY XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series 256MB 32MX8 PC-3200C2 With Heat Spreader OEM $72 *2

Any different case?
