I was curious if anyone here knows how to replace a laptop screen? Or does anyone know how to connect a laptop to a regular desktop computer? What are the requirements and materials needed (besides the laptop screen of course)?

Also, can anyone direct me to any online sources that can guide me through either process? Thanks! :)

Leave the screen to trained profs. There should be a VGA port at the back of the laptop to connect it to a regular monitor. You can interface using your serial port or NIC to a regular desktop.

Depending on the laptop you have, replacing the LCD could be relatively easy or a nightmare. Not to mention that those things are quite expensive, unless you can get a used one.

I have a couple older laptops (an IBM Thinkpad 760XL and a Macintosh Powerbook 280c) that had service manuals available online. There were pretty detailed instructions for removing/replacing any part. So you might want to do a deep search for such a thing for your laptop.

Or you could probably just buy a different laptop off one of the auction sites and save some time and money.

Thanks for the help themadmonk and Workin'!

Does anyone happen to know what wires/cables are needed to connect just the laptop screen (i.e. the screen off a broken laptop) to a desktop computer setup? Thanks! :)
