My guess is that this LCD has been frozen, it belongs a friend of mine and Im trying to figure out what happened to see if I can get it covered under warranty or not.

Give me your opinions or expert opinions, I would like to hear !!

The little tree branch black/dead pixel designs on the LCD panel itself.

Looks like some kind of electrical discharge effect. Maybe due to a short?

Have you tried changing the theme of the desktop? If the fringy stuff is constant, then, yes - the LCD is damaged.
