Hello to all,
I have Verizon DSl as most of us know they were just created after a merge. Since I got the service back in June 2000 I have been having minor disconnect and desync issues. They resolved them that time by switching my GSP. Now I'm just having alot and frequent problems, now I get static and distortion on the phone and the DSL is disconnecting more often and also the bandwith is less than a 56k modem @ 3K.

When I called the second time the Tech rep told me it was my modem and that it was old and I needed a new one. He said Verizon wouldn't cover me on this I had to have a chat with Westell ( the maker of the modem ).

Here is what is going on. When I turn on the modem I get beeps and high pitched noises. If anyone knows what this means please tell me I need to know so I kow what my next move is from here. My Dsl modem a Westell is connected to my PC with a 3COM Nic if that helps anyone.

Thank you all.......help me ....

Wow, that sucks. I'm not sure of the answer to your question, but call back the tech support number, and get a second opinion from another tech there. I really don't think a modem can grow 'old' and not work anymore. I would keep bothering them until they get your service working right again.

I'm not sure of the deal in your area. But here in LA, Westells won't work. It has to be a Fujitsu.

From what I understand they are changing their equipment all over the country to be more uniform, so maybe that's what happened to you.

Anything is possible with those idiots.

Post your question at dslrports.com under the Verizon forum, maybe someone will know the answer.

Sounds more like a line noise problem. Was a frequency splitter installed to separate the DSL and voice frequenies?

With @Home (don't know about others) there is constant upgrading that can change the situation drastically. The current one is requirement for modems to be DOCSIS complient. Of course, @Home almost always provides the modems so it's not often a problem.

there are several westell models, some of which don't work with certain isps.

The Westell should make no noises or beeps.
That is most likely a bad sign.
Do all of the lights come on solid in a row? (power, ready, link)
Do you live in a house or a apartment?
Do you have multiple lines coming into the house?
