I installed Windows 98 onto this system and it shuts down whenever it gets ready. It is not overclocked. It is at 180(UDUD) and no other changes have been made. My neice is very sad. She is ready to play computer games.:(

What do you mean by "whenever it gets ready"? You need to give some more info.

I have one of the 6180's running Win2K, so maybe I can help if you explain more about your problem.

The computer boots windows, I open a program and then the computer shuts down, the screen goes blank, and the green light stays on. I hit the shift key, move the mouse, hit the keyboard but still no change. It makes no noise, or beeps, nor does it give any error messages. Initially, I thought that the processor was overheating, so I placed a fan over it to keep it cool, but it still happens. It can be anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes before it shuts down. After the initial shutdown it must be unplugged before it will boot again but shutdown time gets smaller and smaller after that. Sometime it won't even make it thru a complete boot process. From my reading it appears to be the onboard video, but I needed to ask to see if someone else had encountered this problem.

My niece and I really appreciate your offer of assistance.

Hmmm... it could be a lot of different things then.

I'm assuming you got one of these through the Egghead.com deal.

1) I would start by ensuring everything is seated properly (RAM, CPU), and all cables are secure and connected properly.
2) Disable the sound in the BIOS, see if that's the problem.
3) If you have some extra EDO RAM try swapping with the RAM in the system.
4) Format the drive and install windows and verify all the drivers are installed correctly and they are the right ones.
