Hi there,
Well I installed my new Soundblaster Audigy card last night which went very smoothly.

I also installed FireNet and that is where I think things went wrong....:frown:

After installation I can connect to the internet but cannot view any webpages or do anything at all with my connection - I'm still using a simple 56k dial up connection.

Anybody have any tips to resolve this - it is so long since I had to fiddle around with protocols and TCP/IP etc that I have forgotten what on earth I should be doing to rectify this problem....

Thanks in advance

I'm actually using Win ME - will re-installing the browser make global changes to all of my net based applications?

This problem is somewhat confusing as I can connect to my ISP without any trouble at all - but any net based application does not work.

I'll check your suggestion out ASAP :)

When it comes to Network issues, WinME is the flakiest version of windows.

MS kept the Win98 base and enhanced part of WinME network?s aspects with Win2000 files. The result of this ?good intention? is unstable Network in WinME.

If you are doing or plan to do extensive use of the Network I would suggest that you should upgrade to WinXP Home (or better WinXP Pro, if you can afford it).

Since you are able to DialUp but can not browse I would try to refresh the browser.

Reinstalling the browser should keep the current settings the same.

YMMV have a good luck.

Well I still have the same problem. I upgraded to IE6 (service pack) 1 from IE 5.5.

The pc connects to the ISP no problem but will not allow me to use the "system" - I am sure it is the networking settings that are the problem :(

I have checked that the "access4less" acount is the default server but still does not work :(

I've never been stumped like this before :(

Any other ideas??

Problem solved....nothing that I have ever seen before was the cause too!!!

I had to go into the registry and copy and import the settings (saved to a floppy disk) from my second PC into this primary PC.

And here we are back online again :)

It was the Winsock and Winsock2 registry entries that had become corrupted or suchlike - as I said at the start - I've never seen this problem ever before - glad that my trusty Win ME is well again (I never have trouble with ME) :D
