Help deciding on HP CD-Writer Plus 9310i

I am looking at purchasing a HP CD-Writer Plus 9310i for home use. My main use would be back-up and converting my record collection to CD's. I know that Plextor makes a very good CD writer but I want to buy my equipment locally and HP or Zip are the only brands at Staples. Would the HP CD-Writer Plus 9310i be good enough for my applications? If not, what would you recommend?

i have had one for about a month. uses adaptec 3.5 software. i have copied music cds. i found that if i copied the music first to my hard drive and then to the cd it made flawless copies. once when coping from a cd drive to the hp i received a buffer overrun. i know that adaptec now has version 4. out but it is $90. the software allows u to copy from cd to hard drive. i do not know what software plaxtor uses. i doubt if i would buy this hp knowing what i know. i have also slowed down the write from 10x to 4x when making very important file backups to prevent a overrun. hope this helps - i would check alot of reviews.

With IDE cdrw units, it is always recommended to write and then burn the image from the HD, not cd-reader to cdrw. This can cause to buffer underruns, especially at higher burn speeds. There is a option in your writing software, not matter if it is EZ cd Creator 3.5 or 4, or any other brand out there.

If the HP cdrw has at least a 2meg buffer, it should work without problems for you.

I used to have an HP 8100i and I now have an HP 9210i. They both worked perfect. Just b/c adaptec software sucks doesn't mean that the drive sucks 😛 Just use the money that you save not getting a plextor and buy nero, then you are set 🙂

I guess it depends on your price range,I bought the 9110i for $149.00
It has worked perfectly for me. it does have the 4meg buffer.

I wanted to see how far I could push it so I fired up a Tribes server waited till I got about 6 people on ,then started up Rc5 & proceeded to burn a backup of my Win 98 disk.It had no problem & the disk turned out perfectly(I relize this test is system dependent)but the 4 meg buffer had to help.

So if your planning on spending over $200.00 go Plextor with "Burn Proof" . Although I've seen some of the older Plextors under $200.00 the Hp's are redally available at $150.00
Toro 🙂
