It doesnt shorten the CPU's life to any significant degree unless you go overboard. Regardless, I prefer running all my stuff at stock (though I overclock the hell out of it for the first few days) just for peace of mind.

Well, that may not be true anymore, at least if you have an Intel chip. Stevty fried one of his cores on his 920D by only going up to 1.475 vcore.
