Hello,

I have settled on these two motherboards as I like Gigabyte and I need 8 SATA ports. But I do not know if I should pick one over the other.

My main goal is to be able to overclock a 4790k chip to 4.7gHz (with nice cooling of course!)

It seems the UD5 has 12 phase power while the Gaming 7 has 8 phase. But I do not know the ins and outs of this, only found through researching.

So, if anybody has some input regarding these two models and which to choose I would appreciate it.

Thanks

They're basically the same board except the GA-Z97X-UD5H has 2 Ethernet ports and a better power section.

Don't know what you really need, but I've stuck with the UD5H series since Z77 and have been satisfied with each board.
But I would think either would be fine for overclocking with air or water cooling.

Thank you for your input. I called Gigabyte and they said to go with the UD5H for Video Editing (my main task) and overclocking.

I over clocked on a Vanilla Gigabyte Z97 think it was the SLI, it worked good with water cooling. That board was only $100 off the dent rack, think it clocked to 4.8Ghz.

Sounds like I will be in business with the UD5. I am planning on using a Corsair Hydro 110 and replacing the fans.
