Alright, here's the situation.... I perfectly built a pc for my friend. A week later, he burnt out his HDD. He bought another, I put it in his comp, a few days later, it was defective. At this point he was VERY pissed at me, so I told him that he downloaded a virus which made his hard drive work 5 times harder than it should, and so it burnt itself out. So now we request an RMA, get another HDD, everything is working fine, and now when he turins his comp on, it says "ERROR RUNNING cprogram~1.1/.~1/.dll " Personally, I have no clue what the hell that is. My best guess is a virus. He said that Windows works fine, but he can't go on the net (he has cable) I searched my comp, and I don't have that file. Any suggestion on what I should/can do?!

Burned itself out. LOL. That's the most ridiculous thing I ever heard. That's like saying "My car stopped working because I drove it on the freeway 8 hours a day". Perhaps the computer it not as perfect as you claim ;). Post some specs on the system and maybe we can help (motherboard, case, PS, CPU, HD, etc).

He bought a premodded case with a buttload of fans everywhere... a WD 80 gigger, an Athlong 1.4 ghz, MSI Geforce 4, Crucial 256 DDR, SB Live, DVD-Rom, CD-Rom, Plextor CD-Rw... That's pretty much it. NOTE : I had no influence on what he bought =)

ScarFace has a good point, he should just reformat and install a clean copy of Windows or Linux, a good firewall, and an antivirus.

I'd also recommend you don't get involved too much, I know you're doing this to help him but if things keep going wrong he'll keep shooting his anger at you.

What size power supply did he get, and just how many fans does a buttload make?

Futher you really need to provide more details...

What OS? If the OS is Win2000, or XP have you lookied in the event viewer? Let us know what errors are listed.
You mentioned the NIC doesn't work, yet didn't list what NIC he has?
What Motherboard?
Did you use rounded cables?

Tip: Next time your friend rags on you about the computer don't make-up a virus lie to cover your butt, just tell him: "Hey, i didn't build the hard-drive"

so this is your friend that's biatching at you?

like what others' said...
you'll have to provide more info.

if it is a virus prob...
then reformatting the hd and reinstallation of OS should clear things up.
(in most cases)

after that point... if you start installing applications back onto HD...
make sure the apps don't have virus in them.

this happened to me about 5 years ago...
i had a cd-r that i compiled all major apps in.
and inside the cd-r... also got burned a virus.
everytime i used that cd-r... i was installing virus along withit.

:(

after 3 reformats.. i realized that.

since than,... i've been more careful with virus problems.
especially when burning apps.

OK, got more details... took some time. He is running on Windows XP. He has 2 fans blowing in mounted on the window, 2 fans inside blowing in, one on the top blowing out, and the PSU fan blowing out. He has a VGA MSI GF4 MX440 DDR 64M, He has 2 Ethernet DLINK 10/100 DFE-530TX+ OEM cards. He is using normal cables, not round cables. He has a T-Bird 1.4 GHZ. Need anything else?

Yeah, what size is the power supply, and while you're at it, who makes it?

My first step would be to make sure he's not overclocking anything, then format and install XP again like others mentioned. Then find out what other software he wants to put on it, and make sure it's XP compatible. Make sure he puts anti virus software on first, and be sure he updates the definitions. Then go from there. It could be hardware related, but since everything is new, I'd do this first.

He told me the event on the event manager, and he said the Source was "AVSynMgr" and "The description for Event ID (0) in Source (AVSynMgr) cannot be found. The local computer company may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE = flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event:AVSynMgr error: 126, VirusScan has been stopped due to a missing or outdated Avsynch.dll library. Please reinstall the product" Any Ideas?

Could it be a driver issue?

He's using AVS anti virus. Tell him to uninstall it, and download it again.

Does AVS stand for something? And how could that be screwing up his NIC? Oh well, I'll tell him to do it and see what happens. Thanks a lot

Sounds more like his system has McAfee virus software installed, err... broken. ;)

Disable the anti-virus software in the services area, and disable the registry entries for the anti-virus software, i believe you can use msconfig in XP, remove the check next to the virus software, then hit apply. Reboot and see if the error still occurs.

The only AntiVirus he had installed was Mcafee, and he uninstalled it and the error still came up

sometimes rather than trouble shooting...
it's a lot faster to just reformat and reinstall.

make sure you back up everything.

when you are installing OS...
make sure your computer is not o/ced
make sure your installation cd does not have any noticeable scratches.
all those things will put you in endless loopholes of bluescreens.

once you reformat the hd, install os..
do the driver/windows update first.

then install apps...

if you've made backups... i'm assuming on a cd... or floppy...
do a virus check before bringing them back into the hd.

AVSynMgr = Anti-virus Synchronization Manager

Normally it is used to auto update the virus patterns from a folder or local server.

Here i found this virus that disables/breaks AVSynMgr.

TROJ_OPTIXKILL.A
Upon execution, this Trojan terminates running antivirus programs

Solution: TROJ_OPTIXKILL.A

Restart your computer.
Click Start>Run, type Regedit then hit the Enter key.
Double click the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Enum>PCI
Look for this registry entry and delete it:
RZNSSS.

I thought it was a virus.... First off there is no ENUM under Local Machine. There is Enum in a few sub directoires, but none directly down from Local Machine. And he looked through and didn't find it. He's been getting very pissed off and I am trying to avoid having to reformat for something as stupid and minute as this. This would be the 4th or 5th time and his habbit of downloading viruses is making me look bad. He insists on downloading an insane amount of stuff from IRC and Kazaa, probably the 2 prime places to get viruses. Download stuff from there is like slitting your wrists then going swimming in shark infested waters.... you'll almost always end up screwed. Any other suggestions?

i'm telling you... it's much easier to reformat.
save yourself some time and headache.

and as i said before...
make sure to get rid of all virus on cdr's if you got any.
