The 3.06b that I had about a year ago did come with a very decent heatsink/fan and also had shin etsu thermal compond, so you may find that when you remove the heatsink it does not have a pad. Still it does sound like you need to remove the heatsink, clean it and apply some fresh AS3. It will help your temps and is always a good idea to clean and apply fresh paste about every 6 months, anyway. The 3.06 did run a little warmer than most of the other b chips.Originally posted by: xerocool
ok, i got motherboard monitor, but it doesn't seem to have my motherboard on there (soyo sy-p845), but i checked the temp in bios and it's 47C WHEW!!! but that's still a little higher than i want it.
motherboard monitor seems to have worked for a a little bit, when i first initialized it, it said 47C cpu and 76C for case. but then after a minute or so it went to -23C for the cpu
oh well, anyways, does anyone know if it's ok to use something like artic silver after a cpu has been exposed to the factory installed thermal pad for about a year? i heard the wax on the stock pad fills up the voids, and thus artic silver won't be as beneficial, is this true?
Make sure that your settings for the sensor on Motherboard Monitor are correct. Their website will give you the board and the sensor chip to select.
Edit: For reference, my 3.06b with the stock HS/Fan ran in the low 60C range under full load.
