HELP! CPU RUNNING SLOWER THAN STANDARD CORE SPEED!

Hey All, 😀

First of all i just want to say....HELP!

I have an Athlon XP 1900+ which is supposed to, as standard, run @ 1.57Ghz! The thing is ever since i bought this new motherboard (Gigabyte 7VT600-P-RZ) my CPU is only running at 1.2GHz.

I have tried several suggestions such as updating BIOS, Overclocking (It is currently overclocked to 1260Mhz - which i feel is more than safe), checking for throttling but none of these have worked.

Also for some reason CPU-Z thinks that the Chip is an AMD Athlon MP. I have posted the CPU-Z results below. PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!

CPU-Z Results:

Name: AMD Athlon MP
Code Name: Palomino
Package: Socket A
Technology: 0.18 u
Voltage: 1.760v

Core Speed: 1260.0Mhz
Multiplier: x 12.0
FSB: 105.0MHz
Bus Speed: 210.0Mhz

MEMORY:

Frequency: 138.3MHz
FSB: DRAM:FSB+ 33MHz
RAS# to CAS# Delay: 3 clocks
RAS# Precharge: 3 clocks
Cycle Time (Tras): 6 clocks

Welcome to AT forums 🙂

Your CPU should be at 12 (multiplier) * 133 (FSB) = ~1600 MHz.
Yours is at 12*100 instead.

Simply set the FSB to 133.

You may want to update the mobo's bios too if it's not allowing that option.

Hey n7,

Yes it wont allow me to set the FSB to 133, the maximum is 132 (and if i set it to that then the Computer wont start at all - it will reset CMOS and reset all settings to defaults). I have updated the BIOS and it still says the maximum is FSB 132!!!

Any other solutions? Anyone?

What mobo are you running? IT almost sounds like your running an old Thunderbird board. do you know the model number?

LOL PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

It turned out that the Jumper on the motherboard was stopping me from changing it to 133 FSB. It was actually set to 100 FSB (Gee i'm an idiot!).

Even better now, i figured out how to overclock my pc so now its running at 1.63 Ghz!!! Hmm wonder how far i can take it before it explodes!?

Thanks for your help anyway guys, much appreciated.

There is most likely a jumper on the board that sets the FSB "range". Right now its set to 100, you need to set it to 133. This will give you a new range of possible FSB values in the BIOS.

Ah sh!t i forget those old mobos had jumpers for teh FSB.

Glad to see you figured it out.

The solution to a PC problem can be like a needle in a haystack especially when the older boards have jumpers. Adds an extra thing where problems can arise.

Glad you've solved your problem.

On Overclocking, if its a Palomino core XP, you wont get much out of it. If its a Thoroughbred B DLT3C then congrats and have fun 😀
