HELP!!! CPU retention lever seems to be stuck - doesn't go all the way down.

I'm having a problem trying to put a CPU (Athlon XP 1700+) in a Biostar M7MIA mobo. When I try to push the socket lever down, it gets stuck about halfway down and won't go any further. Any ideas what might be causing this problem?
