My dvd drive quit rcognizing thier was a disc in it. So I took it out and considered it dead.

Then my floppy drive quit working...first it said all my discs were copy writin and wouldent write to a floppy or format a floppy disk. Today I went and bought a brand new flopppy and Im getting the same problem...it dosent recognize a disk..it says" please insert disk".

I have a Acer CD-RW that is working fine, it was master to my dvd when the dvd died. Why are my drives not working?🙁

ANY help you could provide I would be very thankful for😱

-Thanks

I uninstalled the floopy disk controller in device manager and rebooted and let WIN XP reinstall the controller...that didnt work. The power light on my floppy is staying on even when I dont have a disk in it. Im not sure how my dvd drive and my floppy drive would both quit recognizing disks within a couple weeks. Please Help , I have homework I need on a floppy disk 🙁

Ok so Im a moron with the green light on my floopy staying on😱. Im just flipped the IDE cable and now the floppy light is acting normal....but it still wont recognize disks. Could the plug on my mobo be fried? someone has gotta have an idea here😀

i accedently flipped the IDE cable connecting to my floppy on my old computer once when moving pieces around--- it actually fried my floppy drive- it never worked after that. I had to go get a new.

<< ARG!:frown: that would suck...I just frikkin bought it🙁

Thanks for yur input tho

well hopefully i'm wrong--- if you just bought it still might be under warranty-- go replace it.

crowdog, I would suspect the power supply more than the motherboard.

rallispec, you are very unlucky...I have seen this done a hundred times (and done it myself) but never a ruined floppy drive

Supsect the power supply? You think maybe its going bad? Or is it something fixable? The only thing I see changable on the PS is a switch on the back, now the switch says 115. When I switch it says something like 250....LOL. Im sure thats the watts but should I switch it? Ive had some wierd things happen that point to the power supply....like my comp just not wanting to power up at all for like 5 min....or it rattles sometimes.

Anyhoot thanks for the input.

That switch doesn' t have anything to do with it. Leave it on the 115 setting.

That's for if the voltage going in to the PS is 230 volts . Some countries overseas use that voltage.

In the U.S., most voltage is 110, unless youre trying to plug into where your dryer is at, or something 😉

It may have just died, or maybe not rated high enough to run all those new drives you're putting on there.

I've gotten the floppy cable backwards a few times myself without ever damaging the drive.

Have you checked to see how your drives are showing up in BIOS? I had a floppy drive that wouldn't work even after I made sure the cable was attached the right way 🙂 and when I checked in BIOS, it was showing up as a 5 1/4" floppy (!?). Once I fixed that, it worked.

Ok,

I checked in bios before and again just now and thats not the problem. So what do you guys suggest? Should I go buy a new power supply?

Thanks

It may just be a coincidence. What I meant before was, if you feel something inside your PC is killing drives, I would tend to suspect the power supply more than the motherboard as you had suggested. I don't think I would invest in a new PS at this point.

DONT put you PS on 250V!!!!!!

I was talking about the part of the mobo that controls the floppy....I think its called the floppy controller😱 Im just wondering wtf could possibly be wrong. Im gonn go hook these drives up on my moms new gateway and see if they work on her comp. If they do then Ill be sure its not the drives....errr😱
