HELP!!!

I tried the pencil trick and it didn't work so I went out and got a defogger repair kit. After connecting the bridges, I ran into the following problem...

I was able to change the Multiplier to x8 and kept all the other settings the same....the system booted so I went back into the bios to change to x8.5....after making the change, my system would not boot. After clearing my bios, I can't seem to change the multipliers anymore.....and if I change the voltage to any other setting expect the default, my system will not boot...Also, when I change the FSB, I can use the system ok but when I restart my system, it seems to not boot...get no signal to monitor while there is power to system and HDD...

Has anyone run into this problem? Could I have possibly damaged my CPU during the first few attempts with the pencil trick?

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

well, what motherboard are you using ?
When I tried to unlock mine, I must've done a sh*t job. I took nail polish remover (a compuwiz1's instructions) and removed the loctite, & did it again, with an old small modelling paint brush.
2nd.. I had a similar problem, until I realized that I'd set the fsb on my A7V to 110 instead of 100 (because all the dips were on the wrong side, & the manual is pretty confusing!)

hope this helps

joeblo123 - I believe I replied in one of your other threads. joinT, he has an MSI K7T Pro2a I believe.

I experience the identical problem when I putz around with the multiplier and FSB on that mobo. I just roll with the punches, cut the power switch for my case, cut it back on, and then hit the power-on button and get it to boot and/or to get into the BIOS to fix whatever... Sometimes it takes a few times.

It's one of those picky mobos where sometimes you're fine and it'll boot after you OC and/or after a normal windoze restart, and other times it won't. You could alternately try re-doing your defogger kit bridges (which I've done as well to at least get a 9 multiplier that I couldn't get before).

Thanks for your replies...with each one, I seem to be learning a bit more...

joinT, I'm using the MSI KT7 Turbo-R mobo.

Can either one of you guys hypothesize what might have caused me not to be able to change the multiplier after the first try? It seems odd that I was able to right after I did the L1 brdiges but not after that first try...Since I can't seem to change the multiplier anymore, I guess I'll try doing the L1 bridges again.

Also, do I need to unlock the L7 for the Voltage? Do I have to set the voltage much higher...like 1.8V or higher?

Hi..... are your bridges touching with paint? That may cause it. scrape in between each one after you paint it to make sure theyre clean space between them. ALSO with the paint brush are you applying enuff pressure to the pain to make sure its contact is good?

I had a similar problem but it turned out to be a weak 300watt power supply not putting out enuff juice. I had to completely discharge the PSU each time b4 rebooting.

Bonkers, do you know where I might be able to find information on this problem?

Also, my friend bought the same board, just without raid, and he has no problems.....

Any other ideas???

Thanks
