help...corrupted display w/ 8500LE

my bro did just a fresh install of WinXP followed by the driver and then control panel....once it reboots it okay but after about 10 minutes the screen is corrupted and the computer freezes completely. this happened w/ both Cat 3.0a and 3.1 . funny thing is that when i built it a few weeks ago it worked fine and i even watched several movies on it....could this be a possible hardware failure?? any suggestions would be great.

havent tried 2.5 or dx9...but it was working fine w/o it b4....going over to his place this weekend...will update later
 
- Cat 3.0a works fine with DX 8.1a on my XP system


u might want to try this :
- remove the drivers under safe mode ( press F8 when XP boots )
- reboot, install the drivers on the CD that came with your VGA card,reboot
- update to CATALYST 3.0a
- test it without installing the Control Panel ( run 3dmark loop or something for 1 hr ) if it's o.k.
- install The COntrol Panel ... and retest it..

knowing my bro and his lack of computer prowess he probly did something wrong...but he contacted ATI and they said it was a known issue on some of their cards; newayz will have to take a look for myself later
