Help convice me to get a new computer?

I have a 1Ghz AMD processor, and ASUS (I forget it is something like AV133 model) motherboard with SDRAM and Geforce 2 Pro. I have a 20" IBM P200, a cd burner that I hardly use, two hard drives(one filled with hundreds of MP3's). I also have Windows 98se. I use my computer for major internet surfing and occasional gaming. It runs great and it is fast. However, I always look around and see and hear users talking about the new exciting chips, processors, memory, and video cards- I think to myself I want that also. However, I have a feeling if I build a new computer(or get in on one of those great Dell Deals that have been coming around) I will have a more powerful computer but will not notice any real difference. Please comment on what I am missing out on?

Light Gaming and Browsing the Web.....

Other than that as long as the gf2 is a pro....you might get a 4200 and put in their instead that would be a nice upgrade. Other than that for browsing the web you would be wasting your money.

If you are happy, don't worry about it. But if you go and buy a game, and it runs slow, or you want to do some video capture and editing, or anything that your computer won't do, THEN upgrade, otherwise Don't worry, be happy.

I'm running an Athlon 900MHz with 512MD SDRAM and Radeon 7200 and I'm perfectly happy with my computer. I use it to play CS a lot and write papers/surf the web. I have an urge to upgrade so that I won't experience lag in my system but I can deal with 2-3 seconds for a program to load.

You need to list what are the common apps you run and things you do with the PC...Then throw in things you may see yourself doing here in the next 6 months....

If you do encoding (be it divx, mpeg2, mpeg3, etc), video editing, video capturing, seti, etc you will notice the difference....otherwise the net wont run faster, and speed of apps can be juiced up often with a faster HDD and more ram...

Don't try to keep up withthe Jones!!!
