Need some sage advice...

I'ma newbie and have bitten off a lot here. will appreciate those with enuf patience to help me thru this stage.

I have an Antec SX1040 case (400W PSU). I also have the Epox 8KHA+ mobo and have purchased a Panaflo 80mm "untailed" fan (I also ordered an optional 4-pin Tail adaptor and a 3-pin tail adaptor). This fan mounts to my Swiftech heatsink.

Question: the untailed fan has two bare leads. How/where do I connect the fan and with what wires? It looks like the two leads are attached via a Molex connector to the fan and that this is detachable?? If so, do I detach this and connect the 3-pin adaptor to the fan and then plug other end into mobo? Why are there THREE wires on the adaptor and only TWO on the current tail-less version.

Also, I've read on one of the Bulletin Boards some are recommending to plug fan into the PSU instead of into the mobo because of to much "draw" on the mobo or something like that??? There is what looks like a fan plug coming out of the Antec PSU (albeit a two-wire plug. Would this mobe still be able to monitor the fan if it plugged directly into PSU?

And here's a real whopper (just to prove I'm green!) -- How do you know which plug coming out of the PSU is for what??? There's no "key" in the guide that came with the case. This may sound naive, but is every plug coming out of the PSU a source of power for something?? And if so, is any 4-Pin plug coming from PSU the same as any other 4-Pin plug and you simply choose a power plug that matches the same number of pins on any given peripheral device.

Boy, this may sound dumb but unless you know it's just a big guess!

Thanks for any feedback...

You will need to solder a 4pin molex connector onto the fan.

the big ATX connector coming out the PSU is for the mobo, all the other 4-pin plugs can power naything, hardrives, cdroms, fans, etc.

on the 4pin plugs the wires are:
yellow----12v
black------GND
black------GND
red--------5v

have fun :)

If you are having such trouble, you may want to get the bare leads preinstalled with "tailed" Molex connecters. Molex connectors are the power connecters that come right off of the Powersupply cord. They connect and power various devices such as Hard Drives, CD-Rom drives and the like. Make sure that you connect the bare leads to the yellow and black, not red and black. No worry about plugging Panaflos into your mobo, as they use 60% less current than the average fan. BTW, your rig looks to be exactly like mine!
